Float trips with Jasper Raft Tours Ltd. offer groups a safe, relatively gentle way to experience one of the world's true wild rivers.

The Athabasca River has been designated one of the Canada's "Heritage Rivers". Historically important to Canada, this mighty river was the main highway of the North West Company, rival to the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1810, David Thompson came up the Athabasca River as far as "The Meeting of The Waters". From there he ascended the Whirlpool River to the Athabasca Pass. This discovery allowed him to reach the Columbia River and thereby open up the British Columbia area for fur trading.

The boats used by Jasper Raft Tours Ltd. are 25 feet long and seat 25 people. Our National Parks licenced guides are fully trained in all aspects of river safety. They are also very knowledgable about local wildlife, history and folklore. Most of our customers seem to enjoy watching them do all the rowing.

Depending on the water level the tour lasts from one to two hours. It runs six to eight short sets of rapids as well as calm stretches over the 16 kilometres of river.
